Photoshop:
I used photoshop for my magazine and poster. This clip shows how I created my poster, although this is only a rough outline and is not my actual auxiliary product.

I also used other technologies such as the Canon SLR which was used to take the pictures for my auxiliary tasks. As the editing was produced by Christian on his laptop using Sony vegas pro 9.0 I couldnt produce a video showing how this was done as the software was not on the macs.

Development and Challenege:
I did not use any developments or challenges in my trailer as thriller always tend to stick to there conventions. This is due to a specific audience wanting to instantly recognise the genre of the film. Also thriller storylines are normally very similar so there trailer don't tend to differentiate from each other.

Captive |
- The company logo and the production studios log appears at the start of the film, this is conventional as it appears in other psychological trailer such as the one I focused on in my research and planning, The strangers .
- The start of the film starts off at night, therefore the camera is dark creating suspense around the fact people feel uncertain about the night, it also creates a sense of the unknown. The camera is quite shaky implying that the house is being watched through the perception of somebody else, also creating a sense of unknown and suspense around the trailer. This method is very similar to that in The Strangers which I though was very effective in helping create the suspense I wanted, and also helps follow the style of a Psychological Thriller. I also developed a little on this, as I wanted it to seem that this angle was through the eyes of somebody, my scene is a lot darker to that in The Strangers. This means that what you see in the scene is similar to what you would be able to see if you were actually there, such as light from the windows and the doors whilst around these areas it is almost pitch black, this also creates the sense of the unknown that I was trying to create.

- In the trailer I also used a pan angle get a shot of a garden decoration, that provides a squeaky noise as it bobs in the wind. This also creates that sense of the unknown, as movement is being provided but by something that is not human, this gives a feel that something else around this area is moving leaving the audience questioning wether it is the wind or something else. I also used the same effect of having it darker as I did in the scene outside the house, as focus is given to the object but the area around it cannot be seen, letting the audiences imagination conjure ideas about what could be there.
Captive The strangers
- The Titles in the trailer are also similar to that of The Strangers. They move slightly across the screen, this creates the target audience to automatically look at it as people instantly look at movement on the screen. The effect used on the Titles has a blue glow as if it's coming from behind the Titles. The blue glow and it's effect is meant to imply crime and violence, as the blue light and it's style has connotations attached to the police.

- In my trailer I also used the equilibrium theory. Like most films an equilibrium is shown, in my trailer it is the characters everyday routine, in the strangers it is the couple everyday routine. Then a disruption occurs, in Captive it is the scene where the character is attacked, in The Strangers it is when the axe comes through the door. There are far more peaks and troughs shown in The Strangers, in Captive it is just the scene where the character is masked up with blood all over him. Like all trailers the climax and the new equilibrium is not given away as this would not give the audience a reason to go and watch the trailer.
- In my trailer I also followed the conventions used in The Strangers trailer in the scene that has the woman being watched whilst she is unaware of the other persons presence. As I was trying to create an effect in the trailer that makes the audience wonder what moments the character is being watched, and close to being take, and what moments hes safe. This scene is effective in this way and also gets the audience more involved in the situation as they feel they know more than the character does, creating anticipation.

The strangers |
- Captive and The Strangers both end on an image of a recognisable character within the trailer that has been distorted to create a effect that makes the audience feel uncertain about the image, as audiences now are aware that with certain effects come certain connotation, the ones used in The strangers and Captive give clues as to to the genre and storyline of the film/trailer. Although different styles have been used showing how developments was been used within the trailer.
Development and Challenege:
I did not use any developments or challenges in my trailer as thriller always tend to stick to there conventions. This is due to a specific audience wanting to instantly recognise the genre of the film. Also thriller storylines are normally very similar so there trailer don't tend to differentiate from each other.
Poster
Use:
- I a 3 colour scheme in my poster, one that matches the colour scheme used in the trailer. The black and white are symbolic of a clash between good and evil, similar to the theory used to create the trailer (binary opposites). The Title of the film is in white for two reasons: One is that it stands out against the black background, thereby making the film instantly recognisable to a target audience. Second is that I wanted the actors name to be connotative with the violence within the film, so I used red to represent blood and violence. The black symbolically surrounds the characters in evil, therefore to keep to a 3 colour scheme it would be most appropriate for the title to be in white.
- The poster is also symmetrical, I did this because I read that studies have shown that people are more likely to give attention to something attractive to the eye, one of the things found attractive is symmetry therefore by creating this effect in theory it should grab more attention.
- The picture I used would be a key part of the trailer and therefore should be a key part of the marketing campaign. As this scene is a key point in the trailer and is also the main part of the poster, the two will be instantly linked together and eventually people will be able to instantly recognise the film from just a quick glance at the poster. The picture also fits to the 3 colour scheme the black and white suit, and the red blood, all this plays minor roles in creating a an overall effective colour scheme.
- The title size also takes up a large majority of the poster but not too much as it draws attention away from the picture. The font size for the details of the film at the bottom are the smallest as these details are not important to creating a successful marketing campaign.
- The slug line used in the poster matches the font of the CAPTIVE title, although the size of the font is a little smaller, as I don't want this part to grab as much attention as the title. The reason there font is the same is because I want the title and the slugline to be attached to each other by the target audience and when you see the title you will remember the slugline and vice versa.
- Once again I did not push to many boundaries in my poster as posters tend to use the same conventions but make the conventions match with the style of their film, this is what I also did.
Use:
- The 3 colour scheme I used for my poster is the same as the 3 colour scheme used in my magazine. The red represents the blood and violence within the film and the black and white is a symbolic binary opposite for the good and evil within the film.
- Instead of making the subject of the main story in the magazine about the film itself, I tried a different approach used in the TOTAL FILM magazine, where the main story is about the actor within the film, with the film being associated alongside him.
- The style I used was very similar to the above magazine. The suit the actor is wearing in the magazine is very similar to the one I used for mine. I also used blood on the actors face but also put it on the the white shirt.
- The vertical symmetry down the sides of the two magazines is also similar. Like the total film magazine all the writing starts 1cm into the magazine.
- Other details such as the barcode the price and date were also used in the magazine as they are in all magazines.
- The masthead took up a large amount of the magazine but not so much that it takes attention away from the picture and therefore away from the main story. This is also a convention used in other magazines.
- The picture I used gives eye contact to the reader, whilst the mise en scene of the character allows the genre of the film to be given away, which is also done in other film magazines.
- The layout of the magazine is very similar to the TOTAL FILM magazine. the subheadings, main headings, mast head and picture are all in similar positions and font and font size are all similar also.
- One thing I did differently to the above magazine was I used a spotlight effect to symbolically represent the binary opposite effect of good and evil through white and black, that was also used in the trailer.
- I also made the word oscars in gold writing to represent the colour for the oscars award. This colour did not fit into the 3 colour scheme but I found it to be effective nonetheless, and threofore kept this for the final version of my magazine.

Research and Planning: Barcode Date and Price
I have made the date price in the bar code section in the middle of the bar code and aligned on both sides.
Research and Planning: Poster symmetry
I've decided to use the poster with Rhys Wood in the middle over "CAPTIVE", this looks far better as it gives a symettrical look to the poster and seems easier on the eye.
